"Many of our family members are Frontline Workers that have been affected by the Pandemic. To help someone in need that truly deserves a second chance at life is one of the reasons we implemented this program - they’ve been there for us and we want to be there for them"
With this program, Freedom From Addiction aims to raise awareness around mental health in the frontline worker community throughout the pandemic, highlight accessibility issues for those looking at addiction and mental health treatment in Ontario, and continue to support our most indispensable workers moving forward.
“It’s no secret within the rehabilitation community that many frontline workers suffer from mental health issues and concurrent addictions, especially amongst first responders. Due to the nature of their job plus the stress of having to work through a pandemic, we understand that suffering from these issues can be very debilitating and even harder to seek help for it”
This program will provide up to 40 days of in-patient addiction recovery treatment including medical detox plus lifetime after-care support & family programs for twenty frontline workers. Our Frontline Support Program is targeted at essential workers in Ontario who may not have access to affordable care or addiction treatment through other means.
There are significant waiting lists for provincially funded beds - sometimes up to 6 months to 1 year, deepening the severity of mental health and addiction issues.
There is significant stigma surrounding not being fit for a frontline job through accessing mental health and addiction services.
Most addiction treatment centres in Ontario are not equipped to deal with complex dual disorders and addictions.
Private insurance/health coverage does not always cover addiction treatment centres. If they do, there are only a few businesses they cover, all of which have extensive waiting lists.
“The perceived stigma, lack of coverage and long wait times prevent many frontline workers from getting help. Through our new Frontline Support Program we hope to raise awareness around these issues and most importantly provide much needed treatment to frontline workers who need it most.”
Workers who have continued to perform duties in an essential service as defined by the Government of Canada during the COVID-19 Pandemic are eligible for our free addiction and rehab program. These services have been critical to the continued operations and support of Ontario’s infrastructure that are imperative to the health, safety, security, and economic well- being of our province and country. This includes frontline workers in the following sectors:
